It’s heating up
As the summer kicks into full gear and hurricane season does, too, we normally see a slight, welcome bump in July precipitation along the Savannah River Basin. This year, not so much. While each of the sub-basins fell short of … Continue reading
Savannah River Basin leads Average Rainfalls at halftime
Coming off a mediocre 2019 season, the Savannah River Basin looked to rebuild this year and has already reaped the benefits of preseason adjustments. The basin’s star trio fell short of its average for the first time this year (the … Continue reading
The season of ‘nothing stays the same’
The Savannah River Basin continued to bolster the prevailing theme for 2020: Change is the new routine. April and May are normally the start of the drier season where our water managers must contend more sharply with increases in demand … Continue reading
Double the rain, double the fun?
What’s that saying again about “February showers bringing …”? Well, if there wasn’t already a saying, there is now. Last month Mother Nature dumped so much rain on the Savannah River Basin we were this close (see above photo by … Continue reading
Demystifying DL1
Not normally known as wet month for the Savannah River Basin, November did its best to solidify its reputation as an underachiever. All three sub-basins fell short of their averages, with Hartwell registering 3.2 inches, nearly an inch and a … Continue reading
Procrastination pays off?
I’ll admit it: By last week I had written off the Savannah River Basin as being subpar for another month. Who needs rainfall anyway? However, pre-Halloween storms blew through like a wolf on our three little pigs and pushed each … Continue reading

June showers make up for May’s wilted flowers
You know that feeling when you take a sip of ice cold water and you can feel it go all the way down your esophagus? That was last week after the unbearably dry month of May. It was so dry … Continue reading

Flowers or not, April’s rain still welcome
The Savannah River Basin continued its march toward summer with stable, (mostly) above average rainfall in April. Hartwell kicked it up a notch, collecting a solid 6.2 inches compared to its 4.6-inch average.
